The Estelle Center for Creative Arts said on October 29, 2026 that it is starting an artist-in-residency program at its location in La Veta, Colorado, according to an announcement distributed by GlobeNewswire.

The application portal opens on November 1 and closes on November 25 at 5 p.m. Mountain time, though the center said it will stop accepting submissions earlier if it receives 60. The fee to apply is $35.

Four artists will be selected for 2028, split between two sessions of three weeks each in January and February. Each resident gets round-the-clock use of a studio, a private room to sleep in and $500 after meeting the program's requirements. Residents are expected to open their studios to local residents once a week and to contribute a piece to the center's November exhibition, which supports its scholarship fund.

Jennifer Peterson, founder of the center, tied the program to concerns about artificial intelligence in creative fields, saying that "AI is speeding up everything" while hands-on work widens the creative process.

Peterson started the center in 2023, naming it for her grandmother. It runs five-day retreats in writing, mixed media, fiber arts and sculpture between April and October at 105 W Ryus Ave. La Veta is designated a Certified Creative District of Colorado.
