Editorial standards
How our stories are sourced, produced and corrected.
Sourcing
Our stories are built from public reporting, filings, press releases, company announcements and on-the-record statements. Every story links to its sources. When we rely on another outlet's reporting, we say so and link to it.
How stories are produced
We use software, including AI tools, to collect news leads and to draft briefs and roundups. A separate automated check compares each draft against its sources and rejects drafts that copy source text, go beyond what the sources say or lack attribution.
Photos
We publish only photos we have the right to use: images provided by the companies involved, press-release images, public-domain and Creative Commons images, and our own graphics. Every photo carries a credit. When a story has no suitable photo, we use a file photo and label it as one.
Independence
Advertisers and sponsors do not choose what we cover. Sponsored content is labelled Sponsored. When a story involves a client of our publisher, Acadia Marketing of Maine, the story says so.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. See our corrections policy.
