Shutterstock, Inc. said on October 29, 2026 that Jon Oringer, who started the stock-media company in 2003 and leads its board, has taken over as chief executive, with the change taking effect on October 28.

Oringer ran Shutterstock as CEO until 2020 and keeps his role as chairman. In the new job he will concentrate on long-range strategy, investments and new opportunities, the company said in a release distributed by PR Newswire.

Hichame Assi, who has run the Shutterstock division Envato since 2020, becomes president and chief operating officer, taking charge of daily operations and execution. Shutterstock bought Envato in 2024. Assi earlier led HotelsCombined, which was acquired by Booking Holdings.

"AI is fundamentally reshaping the creative industry, and the pace of change is accelerating," Oringer said.

The moves follow a stretch under Rik Powell, who had held the CEO job on an interim basis since July 2026 and was thanked by the board.

Shutterstock also said it has dropped the third-quarter 2026 earnings conference call that had been scheduled for November 5, 2026, citing a continuing review of its strategic direction and priorities. The company said it still plans to file its third-quarter results as required and will give updates on the review when warranted.
