Amazon Blocks Meta's AI Shopping Agent As Retail Bot Fight Widens
Walmart, Delta, Yelp and eBay set their own rules as personal AI agents get locked out of online checkouts, TechCrunch reported.

Amazon has begun blocking Meta's personal AI agent, Muse, from browsing or buying on its retail site, part of a broader pattern of websites shutting out consumer AI agents, TechCrunch reported on October 6, 2026.
The friction is not limited to Amazon. Users have reported failed transactions at Walmart, though a Walmart spokesperson told TechCrunch the blocks were unintentional; the retailer announced a Muse partnership at Meta's Connect developer conference in September 2026. The likely culprit, according to the report, is human-verification buttons that fail when an agent interrupts the flow.
Airlines are more explicit. Delta said it has no partnership allowing third-party agents to shop or book flights, and that any opening would need to be done with "security and the customer experience in mind," said Heena Chavda, general manager of global communications. United pointed to terms of use barring automated devices without written permission. Yelp said it allows non-human traffic only through its paid data licensing program; eBay said it restricts unauthorized agents and scraping rather than all shopping agents.
Meta, Walmart, Stripe, Sierra, Genesys, Rocket, NiCE and Decagon are working on an open standard for agent-to-agent commerce communication. Cloudflare, which sells bot protection and runs a marketplace charging AI bots for data access, said it had no specific data to share.
