From running someone else's jobs to running his own

Electric Wizard, an electrical contracting company based in Wakefield, New Hampshire, is owned by Drew Carbone, a master electrician who has spent 10 years in the trade, according to its website. Carbone said that before starting the company he worked for another employer, where he found himself "basically running things on my own," an experience that showed him it was time to build a business where he could serve customers "the right way," the site says.

A generator and charging business built on sizing the load correctly

The company's stated promise is a firm price before work starts and a technician who shows up when he says he will. Electric Wizard repairs and upgrades home and business electrical systems, including panel replacements, new circuits and lighting, and wires kitchens, baths, basements, additions and new construction alongside builders. For storm preparedness, the company sizes generators to a customer's actual electrical load, installs the transfer equipment, and teaches customers how to operate the system safely, its website says. For electric-vehicle charging, it checks a property's existing service capacity before choosing a charger location, aiming for short cable runs and convenient parking.

Working the geography of a lake region

Electric Wizard says it has learned the roads, seasonal camps and freeze-thaw conditions around Wakefield and the wider Lakes Region, including Sanbornville, East Wakefield and Union, and plans generator placement around snow paths and where panels tend to sit in older basements and garages nearby. The company says it also works regularly in several other New Hampshire towns, and over the state line into North Berwick, Maine, as well. For business customers, Electric Wizard follows lockout/tagout procedures, schedules around a company's operating hours to limit downtime, and leaves behind labeled panels and updated drawings once a job is finished.

Outside of work, Carbone said he spends his time with family, biking, swimming, hiking and playing video games together, according to the website.
