Brett Adcock's Hark Launches Free AI Assistant, Teases 2027 Device

The startup, less than a year old, says its model is trained to operate a user's computer and that it won't monetize personal data through ads.

Hark, the AI startup launched by serial entrepreneur Brett Adcock within the past year, began a wide release of its personal assistant software, Hark Pro, on October 6, 2026, TechCrunch reported.

The product is free to use, with a subscription option aimed at heavier users. Rather than pursuing artificial general intelligence, the company is positioning itself as an interface layer for AI, built on a model trained specifically to operate a computer on the user's behalf. Executives describe the longer-term aim as an operating system for future AI-centric machines.

The software runs full screen, combining a chat window with a feed of suggested actions and mini-dashboards the company calls panels. Users connect accounts such as email, calendar, files and payment cards so the assistant can carry out tasks. Design chief Abidur Chowdhury, previously at Apple, told TechCrunch the app deliberately shows a small window of the agent browsing the web to build user trust.

Chowdhury drew a contrast with larger rivals on data practices, saying the company is not selling ads or taking user data, and framed its profiling as task-focused. He said Hark plans to ship an AI-native hardware device in 2027, declining to describe its form.

TechCrunch noted it is unclear how much general capability the computer-use model trades away compared with frontier systems.
