Filming the part of the job customers can't see

Lint Away Duct Cleaning, which has served the Phoenix Valley since 2019, builds its business around what its website calls a structural problem in the trade: a customer cannot see inside a duct or vent to check whether it was actually cleaned. The company's answer is to record a camera inspection at the start of every duct and dryer-vent job and another at the end, hand the footage to the customer, and in many cases publish it across YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook. The site says that footage has drawn more than 500 million views on TikTok alone.

Six services, split between homes and businesses

The company lists six services in total, each offered in both a residential and a commercial version: dryer vent cleaning, duct cleaning for a home or building's HVAC system, and chimney sweeping. Its coverage area runs across eight Valley municipalities: Chandler, Mesa, Gilbert and Ahwatukee on one side, Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale and Paradise Valley on the other. On dryer vents, the website attributes a figure to the U.S. Fire Administration: close to 2,900 home fires a year involving clothes dryers, with an uncleaned vent cited as the most common contributing cause, and the company says most Arizona households need the job done once annually. On chimneys, it points to the National Fire Protection Association's standard, which calls for an inspection every year and a cleaning whenever deposits are found inside.

Telling customers when not to pay for a cleaning

For air duct work, the company says it follows Environmental Protection Agency guidance that does not call for cleaning ducts on a routine schedule, only when there is visible mold, a pest infestation, or enough debris to release particles into a home, and says it will tell a customer directly if none of those conditions apply to their house. The company describes itself as a mobile operation with no shop to visit, sending technicians to the customer instead.

Lint Away Duct Cleaning says a typical residential job runs 45 minutes to an hour and a half once the before-and-after camera work is factored in.
