Checking licenses against the state, not a resume
TradeHire is a hiring platform for licensed trades that, according to its website, is launching across Maine. Its founders bring backgrounds spanning both technology and the trades, and the company operates out of Portland. Rather than relying on self-reported credentials, the company says it checks every trade license directly against official state licensing databases, confirming the license type, authority level and current status before a technician's profile goes live. The platform covers electricians, limited electricians, oil technicians, plumbers, propane and natural gas technicians, commercial driver's license holders, and workers certified under EPA Sections 608 and 609.
The company's website says privacy is built into the platform rather than offered as an option: a technician's name, phone number and email stay hidden by default, and employers searching the platform see only a verified license, trade category and general location unless and until that worker decides to come forward. TradeHire says it was built on the idea that a state-issued license, earned through training and testing, deserves to be treated as a real credential rather than a line in a resume summary.
A fee for access, not a cut of pay
TradeHire says its revenue model avoids placement commissions entirely: the company charges for access to the platform rather than taking a percentage of wages once a hire is made, and it says rankings and search placement are not for sale. Once two sides connect through the platform, the company says it steps out of the way and lets them continue the conversation directly.
Job listings on the site are organized by trade and by town, with the company saying each page shows pay rates, Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data for that market, and the specific Maine license the work requires. TradeHire's county-level coverage spans Cumberland, York, Androscoggin, Penobscot, Kennebec, Knox, Hancock, Aroostook, Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Oxford, Franklin, Somerset, Waldo, Washington and Piscataquis counties, according to its website.
