South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration has issued an Economic Injury Disaster Loan declaration for businesses affected by a fire in downtown Walhalla, South Carolina, WSNW reported.

The declaration makes low-interest loans available to eligible businesses and nonprofit organizations to cover economic losses tied to the fire. Ten Walhalla businesses were affected, and their recovery is "essential to the continued economic success of downtown Walhalla," McMaster said.

The SBA will open a Business Recovery Center in Oconee County on October 15, 2026, at the Earle House, 105 West South Broad Street, in Walhalla. Agency representatives will help applicants complete paperwork and answer questions about the assistance available.

The South Carolina Emergency Management Division has been working with Oconee County officials, state agencies and the Small Business Development Centers on the response and recovery effort.

Applications can be filed online at sba.gov/disaster. The SBA's Customer Service Center can be reached at (800) 659-2955 or by email at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.
